OUR MISSION

DMWFC aims to empower those men and women struggling with drug and or alcohol addiction, with life skills so they can re-enter society as sober productive citizens.  DMWFC strives to build hope in each individual by providing a loving caring atmosphere in which they can recover.

 About DMWFC

Elder Ralph Garth founded Discipling Men and Women for Christ, Inc. (DMWFC) in February 1997. DMWFC was created as a way to provide a facility of diverse descriptions that would enhance the recovery process for men and women who were willing to make a sincere effort to stop using drugs and alcohol.

DMWFC utilizes three homes which are designed to hold a total of 20 men while providing an atmosphere conducive for living.  DMWFC is not based on race, color ethnicity or religious affiliation. There is only one common goal, to obtain freedom from drugs and alcohol.  Our first and foremost objective is to help recovering addicts gain the courage needed to get over their addictions.  This is done through the use of spiritual principles and our 12 step program.

DMWFC is a 12 month Comprehensive Life Recovery and Reintegration Program.  Coupled with a 12-month follow-up program, committed to providing individualized, residential treatment, rehabilitation and follow-up to those individuals committed to breaking the cycle of alcoholism or substance abuse.

Our residential facility is designed to promote the emotional, social, spiritual and physical well being of alcohol or chemically dependent adults age 18 years and older.

We rehabilitate and reintegrate alcoholics, former alcoholics, drug users and former drug users to a wholesome family and community life, enabling them to become productive citizens of society and productive members in the work and business force.

 DMWFC Requirements

The individuals that come to us must have a true desire to remain drug free and break from old patterns of behavior that may hinder him or her from living a drug and alcohol free life.  Our program is designed to help the individual remain clean.  The 12 Step Program contains spiritual principles.   Each client is and will be employed if they are physically able to work. $85.00 a week is the fee for program. Each client is required to pay fees on time according to his pay week.  A grace period of one week will be allowed to each client.  There are no refunds of monies of any amount. The fee goes toward all utilities and house payments.

Each week DMWFC will take up a donation from each client to pay for cleaning supplies, toiletries or to help a new client who comes into the program with nothing but the shirt on his back. It is also mandatory that each client be present in all classes at the home and attends church, no exceptions unless the excuse is work related or an extreme emergency.  Each client will be expected to follow all rules and regulations of Discipling Men and Women for Christ, Inc.  Failure to do so will result in termination.  Upon entry we ask that each client fill out our application and tell us if he/she has any criminal charges pending. We expect a clean environment.  Drug testing is randomly administered and if an individual is found positive disciplinary actions will be taken.  For the first offence, the client will be given a seven day suspension from the program.  The second offence will be automatic termination from the program.

 What DMWFC Provides

The DMWFC program provides job readiness, which includes help with resumes and cover letters. We also provide a job referral program which guides clients to possible employment.  Also provided is. HIV/Aids testing, HIV/Aids education, bible study, twice a week group meetings, once a week guest speaker meetings, service/volunteer work, and in-house meetings.

All clients are assisted in signing up for food stamps during their second week in the program.  Clients are given medical referrals, and transportation assistance. Each client will create a goal sheet and make a sincere effort to accomplish their goals.  Progress reports, weekend house passes, detailed inspections, birth certificate and driver license assistance, and many more services will be provided as we expand.  Our job referral program will be based on information gathered from various agencies throughout Birmingham who partner with our program here at "Discipling Men and Women for Christ, Inc."

 Graduation from DMWFC

Following the completion of our 1 year program, participants graduate from the surroundings of DMWFC back to a drug and alcohol free lifestyle. At this juncture participants should be able to live independently and/or to be reconciled with their family.  DMWFC then initiates a strong 12-month after-care program that embodies active involvement of the graduate in counseling and church attendance.  Follow-up contact measures are implemented to encourage as well as to monitor the graduate's progress, and to ensure an incessant recovery.
